Where are the Galapagos?

Located in the Pacific Ocean, 1000 kilometers (600 miles) off the west coast of South America, the Galapagos Islands are comprised of more than sixty islands and islets.
The Galapagos Islands have fascinated explorers and scientists over time.

The RMG, created by Ecuador in March 1998, is one of the largest protected areas in the world. Measures 138,000 km2 and has an extremely rare variety of biological communities with exceptional diversity.

"Considering the small size of the islands, we are surprised by the great number of native species and their range so confined"
Charles Darwin, The Voyage of the Beagle
